Paragliding like all adventure sports holds some risk. The Health and Safety Executive state very simply that being competent in a particular skill area dramatically reduces the chances of an accident or incident and therefore, reduce’s the ‘Risk Factor’. Like any adventure sport or indeed almost any high risk activity, a person requires Experience, Knowledge and Training to off set the risk and demonstrate competency in that skill area. CPD or Continued Professional Development is also import ie after our initial training we may get skill fade or after a period away from flying, we become deskilled or as we say, ‘Not Current’. So, it’s important to keep developing your personal skills whether thats ground handling, taking part in a BCC or indeed embarking on to an SIV. In the worst case scenario, you may well find yourself on launch and unfortunately watching a paragliding accident or even part of one. You may well be first to the scene and maybe you have to deal with an injured pilot. ‘If you climb enough, you will fall’. If you fly enough, you will see an accident.

BTC provides a range of paragliding courses to assist pilots with their ongoing development. We also provide essential life saving First Aid Training should a pilot finds themselves involved or witnessing an incident or serious accident.
